God is Good All The Time!

There are many who do not believe this statement.

God is good and HE is good all the time.   HE can be nothing but good.   Jesus tells us in Luke 18… “18A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  19“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.”  God is good!

When God created Adam and Eve HE told them “be fruitful and multiply”.  HE wanted them to enjoy creation.  The only thing HE told them not to do was: Genesis 2:  “15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”  HE tells them this to protect them.  HE wants them to delight in all they have; all that HE has created for them.

But the enemy came along to destroy this.   The serpent, the devil himself, approached Eve with temptation and she took the bite.  She tempted Adam and he bit; their eyes were opened and they saw.  (Genesis 3: 1 – 7)

God is good, the devil is bad….In John 8 Jesus says the devil is a murderer and a liar and the father of lies.   He lied to Eve and she believed.   Then she and Adam knew.   God gave them all they needed; for HE supplied them with abundance.  They lacked nothing yet they wanted more.   God designed us to desire more; more of HIM and HIS goodness.  The enemy came and tempted EVE with that desire for more of God telling her that if she ate of the fruit she would be more like God.

God created the garden and set man and woman in it for a glorious life with HIM but the enemy came to steal all that away.  Jesus tells us in John 10: “10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…”  This thief is the enemy, the devil and all he sends to do his dirty work.

God is good, all the time.   He told Adam not to eat of this special tree because it did bear wisdom and knowledge; it releases the knowing of good and evil and HE, God, did not want them to be under this.   Solomon shares why… in Ecclesiastes 1:18 he says “Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain.”  God wanted to spare us all from this grief and pain.   But sin entered in by this one act of disobedience and brought with it much grief and much pain to a world God created to be a paradise.

BUT…God is good and what was meant for evil or harm by the enemy, God uses it in order to bring about good for those who trust in HIM. Romans 8:28  28And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

From God’s goodness enters Jesus to a dying world heading straight to the pit of hell.   God sent HIS Son, Jesus Christ, to deliver us from this end.  Jesus came to bring us life and to show us how to live it now more abundantly.  He came to make a way, the only way, to live eternity with God in HIS love.

Sin entered by one act of disobedience and sin is destroyed by one act of obedience.

God is good; there is no other way to see HIM.
